Serving as the cultural identity for the movie industry, Hollywood is synonymous throughout the world with the cinema of the United states. While much of the entertainment industry in southern california is now actually spread out through the surrounding areas of Burbank and the Los Angeles Westside, this Los Angeles district (local government area) still remains home to many of the ancillary industries in entertainment—editing, props, post-production, lighting, and effects.
Like many aging beauties in its confines, Hollywood is now undergoing a facelift. After years of decline, a stong revitalization and re-gentrification is taking place. Many new developments have been completed and more are being planned. The flagship development of this effort is Hollywood & Highland, also known as the site of the Kodak Theatre which is now home to the Academy Awards.
Fashionable bars, clubs, and retail stores have opened on or near Hollywood Boulevard because of Hollywood & Highland, making Hollywood one of the premier nighttime destinations in all of Los Angeles. Loft and condo conversions are also happening, and a W Hotel is in the works at the famous Hollywood and Vine intersection, pushing the district’s revitalization forward.
