Beverly Hills

True to its aura of wealth, Beverly Hills was named the nation’s most expensive housing market for the second year running in the 2007 Annual Home Price Comparison Index. With an average cost of $2.2 million for a home, Beverly Hills also helped the Los Angeles metropolitan area top the list of most expensive housing markets in the U.S. in the National Association of Home Builders 2007 Survey. In fact, 9 of the top 10 from that list were California metros.

Together with its neighbor West Hollywood, Beverly Hills is completely surrounded by the City of Los Angeles. It also comprises the "Platinum Triangle" of affluent neighborhoods along with the Los Angeles communities of Bel-Air and Holmby Hills.

Despite its high price tag, Beverly Hills is home to more than just the uber rich. While the palatial homes of Hollywood fame make up approximately 10% of the city, the remaining residences include small duplex rentals and detached homes with less than 3,000 square feet. In fact, the city’s average household income is just $71,000, only $18,000 more than the county average, due to the 56.6% of the city’s housing which is renter-occupied.
